Back to school Reprise de l'école

Oh my, am I late! Fall has come and I still haven't published my back to school post. So here it is! 

Ouh la la, je suis tellement en retard ! L'automne est arrivé et je n'ai toujours pas publié mon article sur la rentrée des classes. Le voici donc !

Last year, I  made a lunch- and a schoolbag for both my kids 

Both bags were made with thick linen canvas, padded with organic cotton batting and 

lined with organic cotton muslin.

L’année dernière, j'avais cousu un sac à déjeuner et un cartable pour chacun de mes enfants. 

Et bien oui, l’école de mes enfants n'ayant pas de cantine, nous avons repris nos bonnes habitudes californiennes de préparer un repas à emporter chaque matin. 

Les deux sacs sont en lin très épais, rembourrés ouatine de coton bio et doublé de popeline de coton bio.

I sized their lunchbox bag so that they could easily carry their stainless steel "lunchbots" box, their Klean Kanteen sippy cups and of course their PurePixie's organic placemat with cutlery.

J'ai patronné le sac à déjeuner pour qu'il puisse contenir facilement leur boite en inox "lunchbots", leur gourde en inox Klean Kanteen et bien entendu leur set de table bio PurePixie.

Their school was pretty specific about the size of the bag, so I made it to fit A4-size notebooks.
I also made cotton covers for their notebooks and personalized them with fabric paint.

Leur école avait donné des directives très précises sur le format du cartable. J'ai donc fait en sorte qu'il puisse contenir une pochette A4. 
J'ai aussi fabrique des protège-cahiers en popeline de coton que j'ai personnalisés avec de la peinture pour textile.

I'm so glad I took time to make those instead of getting ready-made plastic alternatives. After one full school year using them, they are still in perfect shape (and believe me, they are were not particularly careful! ;))

Je suis tellement contente d'avoir pris le temps de leur fabriquer tous ces accessoires. Après une année d'usage, ils sont toujours en parfait état (et croyez-moi, ils ne sont pas particulièrement soigneux ! ;))

This year, I added the matching pencil case and a school smock for their art lessons. Both were requested by their new teacher.

Cette annee, j'ai ajoute une trousse et une blouse pour leurs cours d'art plastique.

Telling a story

I love to tell stories to my kids, but it is more difficult to tell a story on this blog or in my Etsy shop in a language that is not my mother tongue. For some reason I always have the feeling that my brain is so much less creative when I start to think in another language than French.

So let's make a try! :) This morning I published a new item in my Etsy shop. I prepared the listing yesterday, and decided to change it after I read Nicolas' post on The AGteam blog. He is so right! Stories are so fun to read and will give an item a life and a soul!
The item is a little bandana bib made with an organic fabric that I absolutely had to use. In general I try to avoid anything related to movies, comics or books. But this fabric is a special one, it represents Truffula trees from the Dr Seuss' Lorax book.

This book tells the story of a man, the "Once-ler" who brings a tree species to extinction and destroys a beautiful area while making himself go from the heights of success to solitude and sadness. It is an old book but it is beautifully written and drawn, and unfortunately more to the point than ever. We read it very often to our kids and it has become one of their favorite. Hopefully they will be some day belong to those who will care for the Earth. ;)

New in my studio Des nouveautés

I can't believe that it's been two weeks since the last post. I've been so busy working in my studio getting prepared for fairs, that I haven't found the time to come here. Today, I would like to show you what new in my studio.

Je n'arrive pas à croire que ça fait déjà deux semaines que le derniere article a été publié... J'étais tellement occupée à préparer des marchés d'artisans que je n'ai pas trouvé le temps de passer par ici. Aujourd'hui j'aimerais bous présenter ce qu'il y a de nouveau dans mon studio.

Since summer is almost here I made a cute little dress named Fleur. It is hand crocheted (by me) with organic cotton yarn and cotton sateen.
Thank you so much grand'ma for teaching me how to crochet and knit!

Comme l'été approche, j'ai fait une mignonne petite robe appelée  "Fleur". Le bandeau est crocheté à la main avec du fil de coton bio, la jupe et les bretelles sont faites de satin de coton bio. 
Merci Mamie de m'avoir appris à crocheter et tricoter !

Do you like owls? I just finished a brand new bathrobe. It is so cute that my kids are begging me to make one for them.

Aimez-vous les chouettes ? Je viens juste de finir un toute nouvelle sortie de bain. Elle est tellement mignonne que mes enfants n'arrêtent pas de m'en demander une pour eux. :).

And finally I also made some over-sized pads out of organic cotton and bamboo. They are quite convenient to remove big and small messes on our little ones!

Et pour finir, j'ai aussi fait de grands lingettes de coton bio et bambou. Elles sont incroyables pour nettoyer les petits et grands dègats des enfants !

You won't see the last news, but I'm sure that you will feel the difference. Since the beginning Purepixie's sleep sacks were already padded with all natural fibers, but the big news is that after a long quest, I finally managed to find some high quality padding made out of organic cotton and bamboo. I'm SO exiting! It is so strong, fluffy and incredibly smooth, and most important, it doesn't contain any glue unlike most organic cotton padding you will find on the market! I can't wait to have new babies try it!

Vous ne pourrez pas voir la dernière nouvelle, mais je suis sûre que vous sentirez la différence. Depuis le début les turbulettes (douillettes) PurePixie sont rembourrées avec des fibres naturelles. La grande nouvelle, c'est que dorénavant elles le seront avec un mélange de cotton bio et de bambou. Ce rembourrage de grande qualité et très solide, et incroyablement doux. Plus important, il ne contient aucune colle, contrairement à la plupart des rembourrage en coton bio qui se trouvent sur le marché. J'ai tellement hâte que de nouveaux bébés l'essaient !

This week in my studio Cette semaine dans mon atelier

The sewing machine is working a lot at the moment. Since the sun with warmer temperatures are back, I'm finally able to
take pictures and start posting some new items. It was time. :)

En ce moment, la machine à coudre tourne beaucoup et comme le soleil est revenu et qu'il fait plus chaud, je peux enfin prendre des photos portés et commencer à publier de nouveaux articles. Ouf, je commençais un peu à désespérer. :)

First a new striped shirt with a sailor collar. This one is made out of confortable cotton interlock knit.

Tout d'abord une nouvelle chemise de marin. Cette fois-ci elle est réalisée en interlock de coton bio (comme un t-shirt) pour un confort maximum.

 

There is also a new jumper shirt, very Breton inspired. For those of you who don't know, this is the area in France that I'm coming from. Just like the previous one, it is made out of organic cotton canvas. It is handpainted with water-based fabric paint (non toxic and solvant-free).

Il y a aussi une nouvelle version de la vareuse, très bretonne dans l'inspiration. Comme la précédente, elle est réalisée en toile de coton bio et peinte à la main avec de la peinture acrylique pour textiles (non-toxique et sans solvants).

NEW! For baby and his mommy Pour maman et son bébé!

Since my first attempt here, I've been experimenting with a lot of different fabrics on my baby's ultra-sensitive skin (he has eczema and on myself. And I think that I found the perfect combination: organic cotton velours on one side and organic cotton/bamboo terry on the other. I'm love them! They are incredibly soft even on the most sensitive skin and still very efficient. 

And you will be able to reuse them over and over again! 

Depuis ce post j'expérimenté ce concept avec différents types de tissus sur moi-même et sur mon bébé à la peau ultra-sensible (il a de l'eczema). Et ça y est ! Je pense avoir trouvé la parfaite combinaison : velour de coton bio d'un côté et éponge de coton bio de bambou de l'autre.Je les adore ! Ils sont incroyablement doux, même pour les peaux les plus sensibles et ils nettoient incroyablement bien!.

Et vous pourrez les réutiliser encore et encore ! Que demander de mieux ?

When I'm not actively blogging, I'm usually behind my sewing machine or drawing new items, or of course I'm taking care of my kids. And this is what happened since our September trip to France. Busy, busy, busy! I've been busy taking care of orders and making new stuff. So here it is! 
Quand je ne suis pas sur le blog, je suis derrière la machine à coudre ou en train de dessiner de nouveaux modèles, ou évidemment je m'occupe de mes enfants. Et c'est ce qui c'est passé depuis notre retour de France ! Busy, busy, busy ! J'ai donc plusieurs choses à vous présenter.

This one is really special since the decoration fabric was drawn by... ME! Yes, I was tired by the (too) narrow choice of organic fabrics and decided that I had to make it happen!

Celle-ci est vraiment spéciale puisque le tissus de décoration a été dessiné par... moi ! Et bien oui, comme je n'arrivais pas à trouver ce que je cherchais en tissus bio, et bien j'ai décidé qu'on n'était jamais mieux servi que par soi-même
